Local musician Karen Romanchuk is excited to be a last minute addition to a really special show at the Wolf’s Den, Sept. 18.
 Romanchuk joins Juno award winning luminaries Lynn Miles, Melanie Doane, and critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Catherine MacLellan on the Lethbridge date of the group’s cross Canada tour.
“I don’t know what happened, but I guess they’ve been getting local singer -songwriters to play. We got home to find a message from Morris (Soenen from the Lethbridge Folk Club) saying I have an amazing opportunity for you,” she said.
According to her website http://www.annabelle.org former Wailin’ Jenny member Annabelle Chvostek dropped off the tour because “it is being subsidized by a controversial Christian aid organization and I was only told about it a week ago.”
However Romanchuk is just happy to be asked to play.
“I’ve been researching all of them so I won’t be so nervous. I told my husband, don’t ask me to do the dishes, don’t ask me to do nothing. It’s really opened my eyes, especially to Melanie Doane, I always thought she was more folksy. But she’s got an instrumental on her Myspace page, it’s got smoking lead guitar and bass and drums. I don‘t know what she plays on it but it’s unbelievable,” Romanchuk enthused adding the format of the show will be a songwriter’s circle where each performer plays a song and tells the audience about it.
“I’m really happy I took some time off to  go to that vocal coach in Calgary, it gives me more confidence,” she said. Tickets for that show cost $30.
Other cool shows this week include Dr. Hook, of “On the Cover of the Rolling Stone” fame, who is playing the Blarney Stone Sept. 17 with the New Weather Machine opening
Tickets cost $30 in advance for the show which begins at 9 p.m.
The New Danger Kids, who were a highlight of the Sled Island Music Festival this summer, are playing their last show ever at Henotic that same night with Chief Mountain
 Henotic is also bringing back the Kabuki Guns Burlesque and the Dirty Girl Social club, Sept. 18.
That night the Slice has  the Queen of the Worms and the Record Holder for a fun evening.
The Lethbridge Folk Club opens their season on Saturday with Calgary’s Kris Demeanor with special guest Dusty Dee.
 There is also a big world music show at the Yates this week, Sept. 21 with Nomoufassa including members of Manding Jata plus Bridgette Yarwood and Josh Fritz. All proceeds go to the Bridges of Hopes program in Africa.
 Tickets cost $25, the show starts at 7:30.
