Lethbridge bands dominate first weeks of January

Things are starting to pick up in Lethbridge this week, though it is mostly talented local acts performing this week.


Alyssa McQuaid plays the Mocha Cabana this weekend. Photo by Richard Amery There are a couple of cool mid-week blues shows happening this week with Paul Kype playing a showcase at the Black Tomato Lounge on the west side.

Kype also hosts  an open mic at the Slice, Jan. 17. Lethbridge harp player Rocking Reggie and friends will be playing the blues at the  Slice, Jan. 12.


 For something a little more low key,  James Oldenburg plays the Mocha Cabana, Jan. 13 and Alyssa McQuaid plays the Mocha Cabana  Jan. 14. The Owl Acoustic Lounge features Michael Granzow with special guest Jesse Northey, Jan. 14.
 Matt Robinson and Brenna Lowrie play the Owl on Friday, Jan. 13.


 If you miss that, Robinson is also opening for Lethbridge country band the Coal Creek Boys, Jan. 14 who are  looking forward to releasing their  debut CD “Hard At It in Old Town,”at the Slice.


The Lethbridge Folk Club is also beginning their 2012 shows this Saturday, Jan. 14 with Back Porch Swing. Cathy Hawley opens the show at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members, which includes a membership.
