The Slice a had a unique show, Feb. 16 with several bands playing a variety of styles of music.
While I missed DIRT and the Yeah Dads, I caught most of Vancouver based progressive rock inspired group Aida. They sounded like a mix of Queen and Peter Gabriel era Genesis. So there was plenty of intricate guitar, keyboard and bass parts plus majestic, semi-operatic vocals which definitely recalled Queen and a little bit of Meatloaf.
They had some superb three part vocal harmonies as well.
A local band, who I keep hearing a lot of positive things about, but who I keep missing, closed the show.
Lethbridge classic punk/ pre-punk trio the Ruby Plumes played an energetic set of catchy, punk fuelled songs and excellent covers of songs from bands like Iggy and the Stooges and the Young Canadians “I Hate Music.”
They were a cool blend of punk, garage rock, stoner rock and a touch of psychedelic rock.
