Lots of open mics, blues and laughs this week

There is a variety of music happening this week, as there usually is.
There will be no  Windy City Opry in January, but Petunia returns to play the Opry in February on Feb. 13.
Tyler Bird hosts the Slice’s open mic on Thursday night beginning around 9 p.m.


 The first of several CD release parties already scheduled for this year happens at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 11 as Mercedes Fawns releases her new CD “I Grew Up Here.” Special guests the New Weather Machine and Bailey Kate will also be performing. Admission is by donation.
Keith “Catfish” Woodrow breaks out the first blues show of the new year at the Slice, Jan. 11. Though local blues rock band Coda is likely to also bring out some blues at Casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12 at Casino Lethbridge. The show begins at 8 p.m.


The Lethbridge Folk Club opens the new year at the Lethbridge College Cave on Saturday, Jan. 12 with John Wort Hannam, who released his new CD “Acres of Elbow Room, last year. The show begins at 8 p.m. with Gabriel Thaine opening with a set. Their first open mic of the season the night before, Jan. 11 at Casa beginning at 7:30 p.m.

 Gabriel Thaine also brings back his High Level Variety show to the Slice on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few will be performing at the Watertower, Friday, Jan. 11 from 8-11 p.m.
There is a lot of rock and roll happening on Saturday. The Slice features a big local rock show with alternative rock band Molly the Boy Cat, Biloxi Parish frontman Zach Passey and progressive rock trio Frege‘s Puzzle. The show starts at 9 p.m.

 


 Down the street, Taylor Ackerman’s Global Acid Reset return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge to play a little bit of blues, rock and roll and original quirkiness. Admission is by donation. The show begins around 9 p.m.


 For something a little different, Check out Lethbridge’s new comedy club Good Times, who officially opened on the weekend.


 On Friday night they feature mentalist Jeff Newman who performs at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15. If you made it to the opening stand Up comedy showcase on Saturday, Jan. 5, you caught a preview of all the comedians making you laugh there over the next couple month including Cory Mack.
 The Calgary based comedian Cory Mack was a highlight of the Good Times comedy showcase and will be performing two shows this Saturday, Jan 12 at 6 p.m and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
