“This is our annual pre-Christmas event.  We had to cancel it last year because of Covid, but we‘re excited to be back in the Casa Community room,” said Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society General manager Kate Connolly.

The centrepiece of the event is a reader’s theatre version of Charles Dickens’ “ A Christmas Carol.”

“It’s most of the board of the Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society. But we’re excited to welcome Sheila Matson, who is a familiar face in Lethbridge theatre circles,” Connolly continued.

“She used to perform in the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra’s  A Christmas Carol,” she said.

In addition to  the reader’s theatre reading of  A Christmas Carol, there will be a cornucopia of Christmas carols performed by singers Stephanie Savage, plus Chris Kyle Peterson, Mayson Merkl and Ben McLuskey, who were part of last summer‘s production of “A Midsummer Night‘s Dream.”

There will also be audience participation, as the audience will be able to sing along while snacking on shortbread, gingerbread, hot cider and hot chocolate.

There will a lot of music. Keith Miller will be playing some banjo, Jillian Bracken will be adding piano accompaniment to the proceedings, David Miller will be performing  some bell ringing and  Lyle Boswell will be performing some clogging.

As a bonus,  the audience will get a preview of next summer’s production of Hamlet as actors will be performing the ghost scene from Hamlet. Shelley Scott  will  be directing the 2022 production.

Jeffrey Graham  will also revisit the porter scene from MacBeth.

Tickets are $25. The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at casa.

Covid precautions will be in effect.
