If it is beginning to look too much like Christmas for your liking, the Juno Award winning Good Lovelies are sure to get you into the Christmas spirit, whether you like it or not.
They will be bringing some Christmas cheer to the Geomatic Attic, Nov. 23.
“It’s kind of a birthday party for us, because that’s how we formed. We we’re all soloists and got together to play some Christmas shows around Toronto and our hometowns,” said bassist Sue Passmore, taking a break from rehearsals for the tour in band-mate, Kerri Ough’s Toronto apartment with Caroline Brooks and bassist Ben Whiteley who will be joining them on this tour.
Because of the new bassist, Passmore will be playing guitar, mandolin and ukulele on this tour, which will be their first Christmas tour out west.
They played around Toronto the first year, and around Ontario their second and are going out west to B.C. and back home this year.
“That’s going to be new. We’re shaking it up a little on this tour,” she continued adding they will be playing songs from last year’s Christmas CD including “Santa Baby,” “Blue Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Auld Lang Syne,” some originals and even the Chipmunk Christmas song.
“I had some reservations about playing the Chipmunk song because it is played all the time. But we broke it down and learned all the harmonies and now I really like playing it. Our producer slowed it down to real time. And I think it was just one guy singing all the harmonies. It must have been a challenge, but it worked because it still gets played,” Passmore continued adding it is touch to choose favourites.
She enjoys performing “Santa Baby.”
“I forget who brought that to the table, but it is a very cute song,” she enthused, adding they also enjoy performing “Auld Lang Syne,” because the audience really gets into that song,” she said adding the show will be more than just Christmas music.
“It’s more that just Christmas. This tour is also a preview of our new, second full length album,” she continued adding they have been rehearsing new songs for the CD, which is due in February.
“We’re very excited about it. We’re just becoming more comfortable in ourselves since the last record. We’re more of the complete package now,” she continued adding their first visit to Lethbridge was last March with Stuart Mclean’s Vinyl Café tour.
“It was so much fun. We’d love to do that again, but I think they‘re all booked up. So it won’t be in the near future,” she said.
The show begins at 8 p.m., Nov. 23 at the Geomatic Attic. Tickets are $25 for members, $27.50 for non-members or $30 at the door.
