“So far it’s going good,” we’re only two days in,” said Wild T, aka Toney Springer, chilling in Winnipeg for a few days with friends  at the beginning of a quick prairie tour before embarking on four days of gigs.

Springer is a Juno nominated blues rock musician had a few big blues rock radio hits in the early ’90s including “Freedom Train,” “Midnight Blues,”  “I Got The Rhythm,” and “Love Crazy,”  and has toured with David Bowie and was noted as one of Jeff Healy’s idols.

Not to mention does a note and image perfect Jimi Hendrix tribute.
He released his last CD, “Fender Bender,” in 2008.

“We’ve got some good new gear now,” Springer continued adding these new endorsements are  the biggest news on the Wild T and the Spirit front.

“We’ve got Mark bass amps which are half the weight of the regular amps. And  they make guitar amps too, which are lighter. And they sound like magic,” he continued adding they have also been staying closer to home for the past year.

“We took a  year off from going to Europe. So we’ve been playing more around Toronto. We’ve been to Europe for the past seven years,” he continued.

“We’re writing new songs and learning how to do the same things better,” he continued, adding the break from touring Europe has not meant a break from touring.

“We just got back from Mexico.  I’m from Trinidad,  but I’d never played Mexico before. I got my tan now. You wouldn’t recognize me,” Springer laughed adding the Mexican gig  came about from an ex-patriate Torontonian who wanted to set up a music festival.

“ It was a blast I knew there are a lot of Canadians in Mexico, so I played a few bars of the Canadian national anthem and they all cheered, so I found them,” he observed adding playing the festival will likely be an annual event.
He is looking forward to playing Lethbridge again and introducing a couple new songs.
Wild T and the Spirit  are on stage at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
