There a re a variety of shows wthis week from fundraisers, to jazz/pop to rock and roll.

One of my favourite Vancouver rock bands, the Manvils, are back at the Slice, April 29.
But the week starts today, Tuesday, April 26 as the New Weather Machine host the jam at the Slice. The Smokin’ Pistols are among those performing. There are also popular jams at Cudos and at Bo Diddley’s as well tonight. Another good local show is Clapping Monkeys, who play at Cudos, April 30.

If you want to play jazz, check out the jazz jam at the Slice, Wednesday, April 27.
Paul Filek is at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 30. Local bluesman Darryl Düus is at the Owl the night before with bassist Steve Harris and drummer Tyler Bird.

It’s never to early to plan ahead.

Make sure you are at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Saturday, May 14 to see Edmonton bluesman Marshall Lawrence, the Doctor of the Blues who is making his Lethbridge debut.

He is one of my favourite Canadian bluesmen and will be opening for Johnny Greenshields.

Something interesting happens at the Geomatic Attic this week, though it isn’t music related.

There will be a local art auction, April 30 to help raise money to send Mike Spencer’s son. Kellen and his friend Adam Manery to  Kenya in mid May as part of a special volunteer program.

They will be going to Kenya to help children and hand out school supplies as part of the International Volunteer HQ, so local and aspiring artists are invited to participate in Africa Aid Art Auction, April 30 at the Geomatic Attic.

More donors are welcome.  There will be all forms of art including photographs, paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. There will be prizes  so 20 per cent of the proceeds go back to them. Deadline for submissions is April 28. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.. There is a a five dollar cover. For more information, e-mail Adam or Kellen at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . They leave for Kenya on May 10.

There is also a special fundraising concert for Japan at the Slice, April 28. Local musicians Aaron Trozzo, John Greenshields, Big Jim and the Twins, the Bohemian Cause will be performing this fundraiser for the Red Cross, who are helping out the victims of the Japan earthquake in March. The music starts at 8 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and prize draws.

Other big shows this include Edmonton based singer/ songwriter Ann Vriend, who plays the Tongue N Groove, April 29.
Unfortunately she is competing with a big show at the South Pavillion at Exhibition Park with Sam Roberts and the Dudes, April 29. The concert is April 29 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 for the floor and $45 for the upper stands. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society.

The Geomatic Attic kicks off a busy May on May 1 with Chicago based soul/ blues musician JT Nero with special guest Allison Russell from Po’ Girl. The show begins at 8 p.m., May 1. Tickets are $25 for members, $27.50  for non-members and $30 at the door.
The Geomatic Attic ’s May schedule also includes Karen Romanchuk’s CD release party May 7, Jimmy Rankin on May 14 and Hayes Carll, May 24.
