For something weird, different and to take you back to the day of old medicine shows, don’t miss Maria in The Shower, who return to the Slice, Wednesday, Aug. 17.
“There are a lot of different response to the show because it touches everybody differently,” said Jack Garton, relaxing in Regina with the rest of the band.
The Vancouver jazz/ pop/ cabaret/folk act are in the middle of a massive tour that has taken them all the way north to Yellowknife and Whitehorse, out west, then eventually back home to Vancouver. They are known for their upbeat and entertaining performances full of crazy costumes, brass and stand up bass.
“ It depends on the show and the venue. Some people really like the visual aspect, other shows, it’s all dancing and twirling,” he continued.
If you haven’t experienced Maria in The Shower, you should.
“It’s a lot of different elements. We mix them all up into one big pot. It’s a sensory experience,” he said.
“ It’s very much like a traveling medicine show. But it’s good medicine,” he continued.
Since their last performance in Lethbridge, they have released a new CD, “ The Hidden Sayings of Maria In The Shower,” so they will be playing a lot of songs from that.
They have been enjoying what seems like another endless tour.
“We were exploring the tunnels the used during prohibition in Moose Jaw. It was really nice and creepy,” he laughed, adding that is only one of many tour highlights.
“We were up north in Yellowknife and Whitehorse and the Sun only sets for an hour that far north. And we saw like 80 bucks running through the parking lot of the CIBC,” he laughed.
They are looking forward to returning to the Slice.
“They have great pizza there. And the shows generally are a lot of fun there,” he said.
There is a $10 cover for the show which should begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.
