Coal Creek Boys show improvement after tour

E-mail Print PDF

The Owl Acoustic Lounge was packed , Aug. 13  for Ali Stuart’s birthday and music from the Coal Creek Boys and the Necessities.

The Coal Creek Boys, featuring her singing background the Coal Creek boys show improvement. Photo by Richard Ameryvocals, showed touring has done them a world of good.

They played an entertaining set of upbeat, uptempo country, rock music.

And while I couldn’t understand lead singer John Paul Smith’s  lyrics, I could appreciate his guitar picking.

Guitarist Devin Gergel and bassist Dino Scavo were locked in with drummer Dustin Gergel and put on a show which had a good sized crowd moving amongst their chattering.

They had a handful of girls trying to do a line dance in front of the stage near the end of their set, which wound down with a cover of the Marshall Tucker Band’s southern rock classic “Can’t You See.”
I wasn’t able to stay for the Necessities’ set which closed the night and I missed Johnny Rains’ opening set.
