Edmonton musician Jeff Stuart is excited about “Equal Parts Reason and Moonlight,” the long awaited follow-up CD to his 2009 debut CD Black Dogs Blue Giants, particularly with the response it has been getting.

“We’re pretty excited about it. We havJeff Stuart and the Hearts return to Lethbridge, Dec. 2. Photo by Richard Amery e had some really good feedback. We just released it, and it debuted at number six on CKUA’s charts,” said Stuart, who brings his band the Hearts to the Slice to play with Colleen Brown Band, Dec. 2.

The CD is a laid back, 39  some minute long mellow mixture of pop music and rock music featuring pretty piano and guitar and soulful vocals along the lines of the Afghan Whigs and Blind Melon, which was intentional.

“In 2009 I wrote all of the songs and made the record and got the band together afterwards,” he said adding they enjoyed the experience so much that they decided to actually form a band together.

“Afterwards we decided we wanted to play together,” he said.
“This CD is a lot more focussed,” he said.

“We decided we did want some consistency. We wanted to work together as a band. We wanted a collection of 8-10 songs that would have a consistent sound and I think we did that,” he continued.

He will bringing a six piece band for the Lethbridge show. Sharing a stage with the Colleen Brown band like the last time they played here came as a pleasant surprise.

“ We didn’t know she was going to be playing too. We‘re very excited about playing with her because we’re friends and we love each others‘ music,” he said.

“We’re going to start and she’s going to end the night,” he continued.
