After a relatively slow couple weeks, it is back to a busy week, this week in Lethbridge with a variety of shows from a reunited Be Good Tanyas, to Toronto punk / rock band Die Mannequin.

There is also a lot of laid back folk this week. The Poor Young Things return to Lethbridge this week. Photo submitted

Vancouver folk/ bluegrass trio The Be Good Tanyas are glad to be back. They took an extended, three year hiatus to pursue other projects including university, solo projects and motherhood, but will be making their Lethbridge debut, May 16 at the University Theatre — a special Geomatic Attic presentation. Tickets are $25 in advance from Blueprint or $40 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 8 p.m.

Winnipeg singer/ songwriter JP Hoe’s new CD was a long time coming. His last CD “ the Dear John Letters,” was released in 2008. So he is excited to bring  the new CD “Mannequin” to Lethbridge, when he plays the Slice, May 16.

Winnipeg  folk-pop singer songwriter James Struthers is ‘speeding on home” eventually, but first he is going to complete a tour in support of his new self-titled EP, which will bring him to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, May 18 with Tyler Del Pino.
The show begins at 9 p.m..  There is no cover.

If you are still in the mood to rock after the long weekend, Die Mannequin’s Care Failure said to expect a crazy show from the Toronto punk/ rock band, May 22 with  the Phantom Creeps and Dearly Beloved. They play at Average Joes, May 22 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance from Blueprint, Charisma and Average Joes.

One big event is a tribute to  Sarah Plumer, who passed away in February. She was an avid supporter of the Lethbridge music scene, so local musicians are putting on two shows, May 17.

Things start early at the Loyal Order of the Moose Hall, where Mase One , Cold Cold and Reborn Extinction will be playing. Doors open at  5:30 p.m., with the music beginning at  6 p.m..

There is a $10 cover which will be donated to To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. There is an after party at the Owl Acoustic Lounge featuring Steven Foord, Stressed Out and David McKillop. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.

On a happier note, the Poor Young Things return to rock the Slice, on May 17 as well. They were last here  opening for  the TWrews and had their own show the week before that.
Amy Bronson is back in town for a show as well. She plays the Slice, May 18.

And Indio Saravanja, who recently won the Calgary Folk Festival songwriting contest, brings his band to the Owl,  May 19.
Jake Ian and the Haymakers bring some country and blues to the Slice, May 19.
Toques and Beards host the Slice’s open jam tonight, May 15.
