As expected people were out in force for the Weber Brothers Band, July 6 at the Slice.
And, as always, they completely killed it.
When they said they were going to play a more stripped down show in their preview interview, this definitely not the case.
They were bouncing off the walls, manic keyboardist Shai Cookie Peer, bounced up an down bashing the keys of two different keyboards.
Bassist Ryan Weber did most of the singing, wrapped around his big stand-up bass, while lead guitarist Sam Weber stood back in the shadows, playing sizzling guitar licks, emerging into the limelight every so often to sing a couple numbers.
They a,almost immediately had most of the audience of 70-75 on the dance floor, sweating up a storm.
Sell, Sell,Sell,” a highlight from their latest CD “Baddest Band in the Land,” was also a highlight of the show.
They followed it up with a wild cover of Ray charles’ “Mess Around,” which they dedicated to opening act the Classy Chassys. They had the crowd jumping around enjoying classic soul music powered by Cookie Peer.
They slowed things down for a tasteful cover of an old B.B King song.
The rest of the first set left the audience in a hypnotic groove as the band jammed and everybody soloed.
The second set was the rocking set. They opened with a cover of surf classic “Mirsirlou,” on which Ryan Weber played trumpet in between bass lines. They took off from there on an exuberant, soulful, rock and roll ride that lasted well into the night.
They called it quits at around 2 a.m. with “Some People,” the signature track from their 2010 double Cd “Left Right, Left Right.”
