West Lethbridge celebrates with Westfest, Aug. 25
The day long celebration includes a pancake breakfast, live music and BMX racing and fun for the whole family.
“When we started, we just wanted to have a pancake breakfast because there aren’t any on the west side during Whoop-Up Days,” said Black Tomato/Pasta Fresco owner Tania McMahon, who is putting the event on in the Save On Foods parking lot with sponsors like ATB and Candieco from 9 -a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 25.
“But with all of the support it naturally evolved into a bigger festival,” she continued.
Not only is the event to be a celebration on the west side, but every dollar raised through raffles, a 50 50 draw and much more will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Lethbridge.
“The goal is to raise awareness and money for the Boys and Girls club and generally raise awareness of businesses in the west side community,” McMahon summarized.
“ Save-On Foods and ATB and ourselves felt we wanted to give something for families on the west side,” she said.
The pancake breakfast runs from 9-11a.m. with live music from John Malcolm and Kevin Wood, who are teachers on the west side.
Trevor Panczak ends things with a set from 12:30 p.m.- 1. Two other acts will be playing as well, but have not been confirmed.
There will be hot dogs and drinks served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
There will be plenty of entertainment including BMX demos from Candieco, zumba dancers, a bouncy castle and much more.
“There will be something for all ages. Children will like the bouncy castle, teenagers will like the BMX demos and parents will enjoy the music,” McMahon said.
There will also be door prizes donated by ATB and a lot more.
“ The support has been incredible. Anything we asked for we received, the musicians are all donating their time. Everything has fallen into place. It’s going to be a great opportunity for everybody to see what the west side is all about,” she said. She is planning on making Westfest and annual event.
“The biggest challenge we’ve had is trying to contain it so we can handle it,” she continued.
“I’m just really excited about it. I hope everyone from the west side will come out and show off what the west side has to offer. It will be fantastic.”
