Toronto based country tinged rock band the Strumbellas are having a lot of ‘fun’ opening for Cape Breton band the Tom Fun Orchestra.
The two bands come to the Slice, Nov. 19.
They have just begun their ‘tour,” which fortunately include dates close to their hometown of Toronto.
“So we can come home each night,” said Strumbellas frontman Simon Ward.
He is enjoying having the opening slot for the Tom Fun Orchestra tour.
“I’m not really much of a partier. I’m not a late night person, so we can play and give it that extra something, then I can go and sleep while the others are partying,” Ward said.
They are getting ready to record a new CD.
“When we‘re in Vancouver, we’re going to slip down to Seattle and record the new songs for an album,” Ward said.
The Strumbellas even have their own eight bit video game on their website.
“There’s three levels of eight bit goodness. You have to travel hoe to Toronto in it,” Ward described adding the idea came about because lead guitarist John Hembrey's girlfriend designs video games for a living.
“She taught him how to do it, so we thought why not,” Ward said.
“It’s pretty cool. We’re like the Elvis Presley of small Canadian indie-rock bands,” he laughed.
