Medicine Hat folk rock duo Mahoney are excited about releasing their third CD in April.

But in the meantime they are beginning to become the WHL’s band of choice. They play the music at Medicine Hat Tigers games and played at the Enmax Centre, for the Hurricanes’ Feb. 22  game.

“It’s a fun way to generate a little buzz. I remember seeing a band called the Odds play during a Toronto Maple Leafs game when I was a kid and thought that was the coolest thing. We play in between puck drops. We replace the music they play in between plays,” he said.

They  dipped their toe in it last year with the Medicine Hat Tigers and are starting to get a lot more interest it  from other Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan teams like the Moose Jaw Warriors.
They are excited about releasing their new CD in April.

“We usually  do covers, but this will be a CD of all original covers,” said guitarist/ vocalist Trent Roset, who along with multi-instrumentalist Ryan Massini make up the duo, who have been playing together as Mahoney for about 13 years. They are mainstays at pubs and bars in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge as well as weddings all over Western Canada. They are best known for reinterpreting an array of covers from punk to country to pop in their own inimitable folk duo style.

“But we played in other bands before this, so we’re recording new covers of our own songs.

While they don’t release the actual CD and vinyl record for another couple months, they released their first single “Schmee” to radio,  Feb. 22.
“Ry guy was in a band called Short Round. That’s one of their songs,” Roset said.
