Some people would say the Weber Brothers are carrying the torch for old school rock and roll. Ryan Weber would 
be one of them, and with good reason, they, among their achievements, spent many years as Ronnie Hawkins’ back-up band.
So it almost makes sense that instead of releasing a full length album, they will be releasing a vinyl single a month for the next six months beginning this month with two new tunes “Jesus, Jesus” and “Time Bomb,” which they will have in time for their return visit to the Geomatic Attic, May 6.
“ We have never been on vinyl before,” noted bassist/ trumpet player Ryan Weber, 32, the eldest of the two brothers who form the core of the Weber Brothers Band. They split their time between Peterborough, Ontario and their home state of Maryland.
“ We know a guy who produces vinyl records, so we thought it would be a good idea,” added guitarist/ singer Sam Weber who turns 30 this month.
“ And we don’t even have a record player. We listen to MP3s,” Sam Weber chuckled.
“ And it means we are able to put as much time into each song as we think they deserve,“ Ryan continued.
“ We like that old school sound,” said Sam Weber.
“ I guess we’re carrying the torch for it,” Ryan Weber added, though he hadn’t really thought about it.
Releasing a single a month can be tough for a band that spends most of the year on the road.
“We try not to travel in the winter because that can be dangerous. But we do anyway,” Sam Weber said.
“But we’re booking this tour so we can come back and record,” he continued.
The next months single is already completed.
While they plan on compiling all of the new singles into a full length album at a later date, you can hear them on a couple other new albums.
They are on Nanton songwriter Kingsway, aka RC Joseph’s new CD as well as Calgary based songwriter Brooke Wylie‘s new Cd, whose CD release tour is what they are basing their latest western Canadian tour around.
“She is a great songwriter,” said Ryan Weber.
“We begin the tour with Brooke in Edmonton. We’ll be doing the first set,” he said.
The Kingsway CD sound more like a Weber Brothers CD because he just let them go with it.
“The Kingsway CD we did two years ago. But he just had a baby, so the release has been delayed,” he continued.
“There wasn’t much restraints with it. He’s heard us play, so he just let us go for it,” Sam Weber added.
They haven’t planned a tour with him.
“We’ll see what happens,” Ryan Weber said.
They recorded both of the CDs in between tours in Nanton at Steve Loree‘s studio.
But they haven’t planned a tour around the Kingsway album and haven’t added any of the other musicians’ songs to their setlist.
“ We haven’t covered any of them, we’ve got so many songs to choose from. But we might. We‘re always looking for good songs,” said Sam Weber.
“ But I think we’re getting better as a band and we are putting on better live show,” he continued.
“ We’re putting together a great show ,” added Ryan Weber, who always looks forward to playing the Geomatic Attic.
“A place like the Attic, people are there to hear the music, they are as passionate about the music as we are,” Sam Weber said.
“At a bar it can be difficult, because lots are there for the music while a lot of others are there to drink and pick up chicks,” Ryan Weber added.
“ We have a tight four piece band. We’ll be playing a good three hour show,” he said.
Tickets are $30 for the show, which begins at 8 p.m. sharp.
