The CASA stage wound up a week’s worth of activities at Lethbridge’s new community arts centre CASA, May 18.
While the Party on the Plaza was supposed to be outdoors during the afternoon it was moved into the community room on the stage due to rain.
I only caught a few acts, missing Karen Romanchuk and her band, who opened the afternoon.
But I had never heard of the Juarez band, a family band of talented teens who played second. I didn’t recognize a lot of their music as they were covering a lot of Top 40 pop music.
They were tight, tho
ugh very loud , band who displayed musicianship belying their young years and sang superb vocal harmonies.
While the New Weather Machine was supposed to play third, instead, country/ pop singer Alyssa McQuaid played a solo set of material from all of her albums and a couple new songs.
She sang beautifully as always and had a decent crowd listening intently. The University of Lethbridge Conservatory, Matthew Robinson, the Brenna Lowrie band and Jesse and the Dandelions were also on the bill.
