Music community and Harmony Foundation play for George Arsene

E-mail Print PDF

A good sized crowd came together to support the Harmony Foundation and local musician George Arsene, June 1 at the Slice.
Numerous local musicians helped raise approximately $1,000 to help out Arsene who underwent three serious surgeries earlier this year. He is best known for playing in country roots band Rancho Deluxe, but has also been a finalist in the South Country Fair  Songwriting competition for the past two years.

A variety of bands and  solo musicians played a variety of different kinds of music for  a good sized audience, though not packed as I expected. Arsene, who was playing with his band for two nights at the Waterton Lakes Opera House rushed back and made it in time for the end of the night.
I arrived in the middle of a strong set of classic rock from The BRO Orchestra featuring drummer Raz Bruce, guitarist vocalist Bruce Roome, another guitarist and Murray Nelson hiding in the shadow on bass.

Shannon Voykin was next with a brief solo set of  original pop music, backed by Raz Bruce on drums.
It was time for some old  school rock and roll and country next with the SwaFox Eyes playing the Harmony benefit for George Arsene. Photo by Richard Amerynson Hawk band with Virgil Skye on guitar and vocals who played  a long set of music.

The last act  I caught, though other acts including Shaela Miller,  Paul Kype and Texas Flood and numerous others were playing well into the night and early morning, was a solid set by Fox Eyes.

They  usually play  more metal and punk music but were a little more subdued than usual. Lead singer Fox Mandy had an impressively powerful voice as they picked up the tempo slowly and steadily. They continue to get tighter each time I see them.
