Tim Vaughn brings the blues to Lethbridge when he plays the Slice, Aug. 23.
“ I haven’t played Lethbridge before. I’ve been touring across Canada for 10 years but this is the first time it’s worked out that I can play Lethbridge. So I’m looking forward to it,” said Vaughn from his home in Saskatoon.
He was nominated or a Maple Blues award for his last album “Read Between The Lines” which was released in 2011. Wide Mouth Mason’s Shaun Verreault produced the album, though Vaughn hasn’t decided on a producer for the next album.
“The blues is where I started, though I add a lot of other things like rock and funk. It’s really comes from being at Budds and Broadway and getting to play with all of these people coming through from places like Chicago.
So I was very fortunate,” he said adding when he was getting stated bands were able to play week-long gigs at the same venue.
Blues on Whyte in one of the few places in Canada where that still happens.
“ I’ve been pretty fortunate to be an able to play with these guys,” he said.
While getting ready to record his next album, which he hopes to be done by Christmas, he has recorded a couple of singles he released on his website to tide people over.
“ I want to keep people interested. I’ll have about 30 songs to choose from for it,” he said.
“One of them is more of a rock ballad, the other is an instrumental which is a tribute to a lot of my guitar heroes, so it sounds like a mix of ZZ Top meets Van Halen,” he said.
Verreault produced Vaughn’s last record though a producer hasn’t been chosen for the next one.
Other Saskatchewan and Manitoba musicians like Big Dave McLean have also influenced him.
“Big Dave is the Godfather to a lot of Saskatchewan and Manitoba musicians like Colin James and Shaun Verrault of Wide Mouth Mason,” he said.
“He always has time to talk with us and is always helpful,” he said.
Vaughn has also been playing a lot of Hammond B3 organ for his upcoming CD, though he isn’t bringing it on the road with him.
“I’ve always played it, but have just started to incorporate it into my music,” he said.
“It’s different and adds variety,” he said.
Local musician Amy Bronson will be opening the show and releasing her new CD as well.
There is a $10 cover for the show which begins at 9 p.m..
