Jason and the Diatonics brought some R and B influenced pop to the Moose Hall for a good sized crowd, mostly of teenagers and their parents, Aug. 16.
The band, featuring former Lethbridge residents Jason Poulsen on guitar and vocals and Jim McLaren on bass instead of his usual keyboards plus Joel Mohr on drums and Erik Olson on keyboards at the back of the stage, plus Steph Olson on percussion and ukulele for a couple of songs and singing lovely background vocals.
Together they played pleasing melodies, lots of background vocals and a relentlessly upbeat and positive feel. They had a good chunk of the full house dancing with each other in front of the stage and, in some cases, singing along. They got lots of applause after each song. They played a lot of the songs off their new CD, “Grain of Sand,”a few older songs and some newer numbers.
Throughout Jason and the Diatonics showed a very strong ’60s pop sound on a lot of their songs.
They ended their set with ‘Saturday’, which had darker lyrics but an up beat feel which could not help but to make you smile and song along.
