Everything happens this week. There are a lot of big shows happening this week.
One of the highlights is Vancouver based punk band Gob, who are playing two Alberta shows including Sept. 20 at Bo Diddly’s with Fort MacLeod pop punk band Sophmore Jakes. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20.
That same night, Calgary stoner rock quartet Chron Goblin are releasing their brand new CD “Life For the Living” at the Slice with Vancouver’s We Hunt Buffalo and Lethbridge progressive rock trio Lustre Creame.
Thursday is going to be amazing as well. Saskatchewan bluesman Jack Semple returns to Lethbridge , Sept. 19 to rock Casino Lethbridge blues style. The show begins at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge for it. He played one of the best blues shows of the year at CASA during their grand opening celebrations.
If you are in the mood for some exciting folk music which a historical focus, check out Elliott Brood. The Toronto trio are Lethbridge favourites who always draw big crowd with their unique brand of folk/ country and rock music. Their most recent CD “Days Into Years” was inspired by visiting First World War battlefields in France. Tickets for the show, which begins at 9:30 p.m., cost $25. They will also be returning on their way back home on Oct. 4.
Also in the folk vein, Eyes of Ivan come to the owl Acoustic Lounge, Sept. 20. They were born out of the folk/rock band Owls By Nature. Their show begins at approximately 9:30 p.m. Spencer Jo is also on the bill.
People who like “twisted” hip hop will want to be at horror rappers Twiztid and Blaze Ya Dead Homie’s show at Studio 54, Sept. 21. Advance tickets for the show cost $25. Aqualeo is also on the bill and local rappers Sin Sane, F-Bomb, Pyke and DJ Fuze will also be performing. Twiztid ( Jamie Maddox and Monoxide) are touring Canada in support of their most recent record “Abominationz and an upcoming release “A New Nightmare.”
There is a big metal show, “the Wrong Side of Heaven Tour” at the Enmax Centre, Sept. 23 featuring Five Finger Death Punch, Escape the Fate a, Miss May I and the Gemini Syndrome. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $39.50 or $49.50.
For something a little quieter, Word on the Street celebrates the written word, Sept. 22 around the Lethbridge Library Downtown branch. There will be lots of well known authors reading from their works, numerous activities and music from HBO3 Hippodrome, Karen Romanchuk, Bryant-Watson Duo, Young-Medicine and the Hibikiya Drummers.
