CMA award winning , Mobile, Alabama born The Band Perry is excited to be pioneers on their tour for their latest album ‘Pioneer,’ which comes to the Enmax Centre, Jan. 16.
The Band Perry hit it big in 2010 when they dropped their first self-titled album and the smash single ‘ If I Die Young’ and a couple of others including ‘All Your Life.’ and ‘Postcard From Paris.’
They followed up with their latest Cd ‘Pioneer,’ in April which has birthed a string of hits including ‘Better Dig Two,’ ‘Done ’ and their latest ‘ Don’t Let Me Be Lonely.’
“We just got done 20 shows all over Europe. European audiences are totally in love with country music,” said lead vocalist/ pianist Kimberly Perry.
They are excited about playing their first solo headlining tour of Canada with the “We Are Pioneers’ world tour, which began, Nov. 1.
“We’ve played a lot of festivals over there, but this is the first tour we’re doing with just our own music,” added brother, bassist Reid Perry.
“We get a lot of pleasure just being on stage,” he continued.
“We love playing together. We’ve been playing together on stage before we started writing songs. October marks our fifteenth anniversary playing together,” Kimberly added noting they are excited to play several smaller cities on this tour including Penticton, Kamloops, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Red Deer but actually doesn’t include stops in bigger cities like Calgary or Edmonton.
“We’re really excited to play cities that don’t get a lot of music. We’re playing all corners,” added other brother, drummer/ mandolinist and accordionist Neil Perry.
“ It’s January and probably a lot of stormy weather, but you guys always give us such a warm reception. And radio in Canada has been really supportive,” Kimberly continued.
“And we’re playing with Lindsey Ells who is this amazing guitarist,” she enthused.
Reid Perry is particularly excited about this tour because the band had input into everything from the stage setup to the lighting, in addition to the music.
“There’s something for everyone in the show. We grew up on country music, but we also grew up on rock and roll. So it is very much rock and roll show,” said Kimberly Perry.
“ We take an underdog perspective to the music,” she continued.
“We feel like underdogs because we didn’t just want to be a one hit wonder with ‘We Die Young.’ So we feel like pioneers that way,” she continued.
Songwriting is very much a collaborative process with the band.
“It’s different every time. Reid might come with a part and we’ll work on it together,” said Neil Perry.
“Some of them are done in a week, others take longer. We rewrote each of the songs on ‘Pioneer’ at least three times because that’s just how it worked out,” he continued.
While ‘Pioneer’ is still relatively new, they are already working on new material.
“In Europe, we wrote a lot of songs during sound checks,” Kimberly Perry said adding being in new countries added extra inspiration for the band.
“Being in a new country gives us fresh experience and fresh inspiration. But we’re keeping them under our hats for now,” she laughed.
The Band Perry show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $45-$80 or $179 (plus fees) for a Pioneer VIP experience including a pre-show acoustic performance, pre-show party with refreshments, the Band Perry tour poster and merchandise and a VIP laminate.
