CKXU celebrates Christmas with live music

CKXU’s annual Christmas extravaganza is always a blast. So fans and volunteers at the popular University of Lethbridge based  community radio station were out in force at the Slice, Dec. 12.

I arrived in time to hear the end of Aaron trozzo playing Ventures style Christmas carols at CKXUs Christmas extravaganza. Photo by Richard AmeryJolene Draper, bassist Steve Martin, guitarist Dano and drummer Keenan Pezderic’s take on Christmas carols.

“Baby It’s Cold Outside” was a highlight as was a darker Christmas song.
Guitarist Aaron Trozzo, bassist Kurt Ceisla, guitarist Evan Uschenko and drummer Clayton Smith were up next, putting their own stamp on Ventures style instrumental Christmas hits, though they also fit a few bars of the Ghostbuster’s theme into their set.

Local rock band Cosmic Charley are always a fun act to see so they  started their set with the Vandals’ punk Christmas classic “Oi To The World.”Midnight Crisis playing CKXU's Christmas extravaganza. Photo by Richard Amery

The Ruby Plumes carried on in the same vein, playing punk and garage rock version of Christmas carols. The last act of the night, Edmonton’s Midnight Crisis completely stepped away from the Christmas theme playing high energy alternative rock powered  by a pair of drummers, keyboards and bass.
