There have been a lot of highlights in 2014 and 2015 is already looking pretty exciting.
But first, there are a variety of live music options for New Year’s Eve.
If you want to dance, Hippodrome will do the trick at Casino Lethbridge, Dec. 31 if you missed their Dec. 26 show at the Slice. The Casino is also offering special sittings for a carved prime rib supper supper at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. for $65. Hippodrome begins at 9 p.m.
The Chevelles will be rocking in the new year, Dec. 31 with LA Chefs at the Coast Hotel with special guests Jackie French and Michael Ayotte. Tickets for dinner and the show are $60.
For something more laid back, The Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet and Sheena Lawson are performing at the Mocha Cabana. There is no cover charge for the show but there is a $10 minimum per guest purchase.
Bully’s Entertainment Centre also celebrates New Year’s eve by bringing back the Noteables, who will be playing a little bit of everything. There is no cover to come and listen to the music, which begins at 9 p.m.
However if you are feeling a little bit country, Hurtin’ plays the Slice on New Year’s Eve. They just released a new EP last week. There is a $10 cover for the show. The other country option is the Mark Hall band who play the Smokehouse for New Year’s Eve. There is a $20 cover for that show which includes party favours and a midnight lunch.
If you are in the mood for a loud, raucous New Year’s Eve, the Owl Acoustic Lounge features Punk Rock prom night with Calgary indie rockers Devonian Gardens, the Yeah Dads and the Ruby Plumes and a combination of the last two groups.
Inferno has a blues and metal New Year’s Eve planned with the Kiit Blues Band, Sacred Savage, alternative rockers Fox Eyes, blues band the Johnny Rains Band and Chief Mountain with the Don, DJ Bassman, Stu Tsi Num and more to be announced. There is no cover for that show.
Fox Eyes return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 3. Meanwhile local country/ folk musician Karen Romanchuk plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan 2.
And New West Theatre winds up 2014 with the two last productions of the season. Their annual “best of” show, “Jubilee” runs at the Yates Centre until Jan. 3 including a special New Year’s Eve champagne performance beginning early at 7 p.m. as performances usually begin at 7:30 p.m..
New West Theatre has their annual Munsch show for young audiences this week as well. The Great Munsch Mystery running in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre at 1 and 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon until Jan. 3. They have an evening performance at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2.
