Several local bands gave a taste of Norwegian Blue’s new Windy Rock compilation of local bands, during a fundraising show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 4.
I missed Mickey HJason Oakes and Jon Martin share a laugh on stage during a fundraising concert for the Windy Rock Compilation, April 4. Photo by Richard Ameryayward’s solo set, but caught him on drums with a trimmed down Planet Telex.

The three piece alternative rock act featuring Tyson Wiebe on lead guitar and vocals covering two guitar parts plus Quint Viskup on bass and drummer Mick Hayward, played a tight set of  catchy and noisy rock with an older reggae song.

They played “Bead,” their contribution to this year’s Windy Rock Compilation as well as “ In the Basement,” from last year’s Windy Rock compilation.

They also played a couple songs from their most recent EP “ Wednesday,” ending their set with “ Helicopter” one of the highlights from it.

The New Weather Machine including frontman Jon Martin, guitarist Jason Oakes, bassist Jason Schultchen and drummer Clayton Smith ended the show with a more mainstream rock sound rather than their usual experimental ’70s influenced progressive rock sound.

I arrived just as Martin broke a guitar string, leaving Oakes to crack jokes while Martin   changed it.

They played their contribution to the Windy Rock compilation as well as another compilation of Alberta music called the Mixtape Club.”
“ Can’t Go BackPlanet Telex’s Tyson Wiebe. Photo by Richard Amery” was a highlight.
