Plenty of rock and roll for classic rockers and metalheads

E-mail Print PDF

If you are all folked out from South Country Fair last weekend, then this is the week to bang your head. Even if you were banging your head last weekend instead at some of the other metal shows happening.
There are a couple more big, loud, head-banging shows this week.

The first is on Wednesday, July 22 at Inferno with Red Deer metal band Leave the Living, who are touring in support of  their new CD “Pacifist.”

They will be joined by Edmonton's Netherward, Fargo, North Dakota’s Tracings, Guelph, Ontario based progressive metal trio based Becomes Astral and Lethbridge progressive death-grind band the Avulsion. Because it is a weekday, doors open at 7 p.m. with bands beginning at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10.

There is a massive day long all ages festival at the Moose Hall on the weekend, July 25  with numerous bands playing the Burning Bridges FYF festival beginning at 1 p.m.

On the bill are Stab.twist.pull. Abuse of Substance,The Press Gang, Kroovy Rookers , Rebuild / Repair , Grizzly Trail, The Reckless Heroes,  local metal band Lock N’ Load, local punks The Scallywags, Born Hero and Iskra. Tickets are $25 at door, $20 advance.

For something way more different,  Olenka and the Autumn Lovers return to the the Slice, July 25. They are based around the classical guitar stylings of Olenka Krakus, but have gone in a more indie rock direction. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.. There is a $10 cover.

Average Joes has your classic rock fix on July  24. So be there for a Slice of ’80s Heaven courtesy of Lee Aaron (Metal Queen) and  Honeymoon Suite (Wave Babies Burning In Love, I’ve Got A New Girl Now), who both have a string of radio hits as long as your arm.
The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30 in advance, $35 on the day of the show.

As always there are lots of local talent with  Bandemonium returning to Casino Lethbridge this weekend and the Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet returning to the Mocha Cabana this weekend. If you missed him at South Country Fair, Matthew Robinson plays Owl, July 25. The Owl Acoustic Lounge also brings back Toronto singer songwriter Jay Aymar, July 24. There is no cover for either show.
