While most of the music community was at South Country Fair on the weekend, and with the two main live music venues closed it left the local metal scene to dominate the Lethbridge live music scene of the weekend.
I arrived at Inferno, July 18, in time for Medicine Hat death metal band Renzouken’s set of unearthly howling and menacing, detuned, dark riffs.
In between a muddy mass of sound, you could hear some intricate bass riffs and some tasteful fretboard tapping on the guitar especially on their last song of the set.
Edmonton pop punk band Point Place followed. They opened by saying they were by far the least heaviest band of the night.
They jumped off the stage and played in the shadows. They played a solid set of infectious, addictively catchy pop punk along the lines of Blink 182 and Sum 41 though went heavier for a couple of songs.
I wasn’t able to catch Calgary’s Shark Infested Daughters or fellow Calgarians From the Wolves who followed.
