You never know where the fates will lead you.
Lori Reid, Lin Elder and Jenny Allen, who blended alt folk, jazz, soul, country and much more into a female supergroup to be known as the Fates, have all moved on to families, successful solo careers and other ventures.
“ We never really went away, we just went on a really long extended hiatus,” chuckled Jenny Allen, from Oakland, where she is spending time with her sweetie after spending several months performing in Mexico as part of three different tribute acts. (Joni Mitchell, the Mamas and Papas and Rikki Lee Jones).
The trio return to Lethbridge ad the Fates to play the Cave at Lethbridge College for Lethbridge Folk Club, April 23 with special guest Karen Romanchuk.
“The show will be a mixture of old familiar songs, and a bunch of new stuff. We all have songs we’ve written and bring them to the group , which is what we’ve always done,” she said, adding she they haven’t planned on recording the new material, though it is possible.
Allen is glad to be coming back home after spending months in Mexico.
“ Mexico is beautiful. I spent three and a half months there and it is really starting to get hot. But it’s been a really great experience. I picked up a little Spanish, but not a lot,” she said.
“I’m just excited to get back home,” she said.
The Fates play the Lethbridge College Cave at 8 p.m.. on April 23. Karen Romanchuk will open the show. Tickets are $25 for Lethbridge Folk Club members, $30 for guests.
