Dirty Mountain play short, sweet set of gritty alt country

E-mail Print PDF

I cut the Space Wolves set short at the Moose Hall, April 22 because I didn’t want to miss Victoria  alt  country trio Dirty Mountain, Elli Hart of Dirty Mountain. Photo by Richard Ameryat the Owl Acoustic Lounge. While I missed  their opening set with Steph Macpherson, I arrived in time for Dirty Mountain (lead singer/ guitarist Elli Hart, bassist Gord Light, drummer Tom Salter) to play their debut Cd pretty much in order from beginning to end.

They played a stripped down, but tight set sans guitar solos as Hart was handling singing and rhythm guitar duties.

But they captured the essence of their record.

Hart had an appealing mid range voice reminiscent of Kathleen Edwards and Susan Tedeschi with a touch of Sue Foley.

The whole CD is superb from beginning to end, so the whole set was a highlight, other than being too short. They ended with “Jagged Lines,” one of the Cd’s highlights.
