The Owl Acoustic Lounge was cooking with some hot country picking courtesy of Winnipeg country/ folk/ rock duo the Sean Burns Duo, Oct. 12.
I arrived in the middle of a hot solo from lead guitarist Kristopher Ulrich as a lone old man danced by himself and another dozen people looked on.
Sean Burns was a charismatic singer, telling stories and making jokes. He had a smooth voice which was reminiscent of Ridley Bent.
He talked about postcards and his dad catching a fly ball and sang one of several countryish number “They say It Doesn’t Rain in Texas.”
He told a story about ending up in a small town four hours outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota , chasing a girl and winding up in an expensive hair salon before playing a catchy, uptempo rocker called “I’ll See You in Wisconsin.”
It featured a subtly beautiful guitar solo from Ulrich.
They ended their set with a slower song about New York City.
