I didn’t get to many show last week due to weather and other commitments, but I was glad to see Invermere based Blues trio the Chisel Peak Blues band, who finished their tour at the Slice for an enthusiastic audience, Dec. 7.
I caught the second of three sets.
The second set started on a more folk note as the drummer James Reimer played a few songs on mandolin as lead singer/ guitarist Emily Rawbon alternated singing lead vocals with rhythm guitarist Ian Wilson.
Reimer switched to drums for a laid back cover of R.E.M’s “ Losing My Religion.
Rawbon seemed to holding back with her big, beautiful resonant voice reminiscent of Rita Chiarelli and Angel Forrest. She played beautifully tasteful lead guitar on both electric and acoustic guitar throughout the set.
One of the highlights was when Rawbon picked up the electric for a groovy cover of Little Feat’s “New Delhi Freight Train.” which featured a beautiful guitar solo.
In addition to originals from both Rawbon and Wilson, they added covers of Robert Johnson and others.
They finished the set with James Reimer borrowing Rawbon’s guitar and taking centre stage and sing a song about the Big Lebowski’s hero, the Dude called “ He’s the Man With the Plan.”
