After a busy week of pop music with USS, Repartee and Sonreal, it is back to the country this week.
Red Deer’s Boots and the Hoots return to Lethbridge to play the Windy City Opry at the Slice, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. sharp.
They play the lighter, more funny side of country music. The Danny Dyck trio open the show. Admission is $10.
There is a lot of country music on the weekend. If you missed Alyssa McQuaid and Coyote Junction at Coyote Joes two weeks ago, they play Casino Lethbridge on Friday night, Feb. 10.
Vancouver “saloon folk” collective Jack Mercer and the Whiskey Bandits will light up the Slice, Feb 10 with upright bass and plenty of fiddle powered roots music. Admission is seven dollars.
If you missed bluegrass band Rotary Park at the Owl Acoustic Lounge last week, they return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Feb. 10 to rock your world with bluegrass music, a touch of soul and maybe even some revamped Pink Floyd. The show begins at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge.
Down the road at the Empress Theatre, Feb. 11, John Wort Hannam hosts Songs For Ken, his third annual fundraiser for ALS. Performers include the Polyjesters, Brooke Wylie, Tanner James, Maureen Chambers, the Sadlier Brown Band and artist Randall Wiebe. Tickets are $25. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
If you are not a country music fan, there is plenty more to do.
The Lethbridge Public Library has a great evening planned for Leonard Cohen fans, Feb. 10. James Oldenburg will be playing Cohen songs followed by a screening of the movie “Ladies and Gentlemen… Leonard Cohen” and an open mic for Leonard Cohen poetry. The evening begins at 7 p.m. There is no cover charge.
Local classic rock band the Chevelles return to Coyote Joes, Feb. 10 to play a fundraiser for the Lethbridge Thrashers Atom hockey team. The show begins at 9:30 p.m. There is a cover of $10.
The Lethbridge Symphony presents their fourth annual Love Notes fundraiser, Feb. 11 at Casa. The theme is “With Love, From Broadway.”
An evening full of dinner, dancing and champagne, silent and live auctions and live music begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are $150.
There are a couple of tough choices, Feb. 11. Local hard rock band Outrun The Arrow is filming a video at the Slice. Outrun the Arrow are on at 10 p.m. The Dirti Speshuls and guests are also on the bill. Tickets are $10.
Just down the street, U of L based community radio station CKXU show they love you at the Owl Acoustic Lounge with their annual Valentines Day themed dress up party, Feb. 11. Performers include funk rock trio Adequate, Hunnycomb, hard rock band A Trozzo and the Electric Few and jazz pop band the Groove Apostles. It is a ticketed event. So tickets are $10 in advance $12 at the door or $10 with a non-perishable food Item.
If you aren’t worn out from that, The University of Lethbridge Headbangers Society feature their show Nuclear Winter on Sunday, Feb. 12 featuring music from Medicine Hat based metal core band For a Life Unburdened, local alternative rock band and Supernautic and Medicine Hat based pop punk band Hearts Content. The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
If you just want to dance Club Didi features Love Panti Raid with Dj Rabbyt and DJ Deonie. that begins at 10 p.m. There is no cover charge for it.
In a slightly similar vein, there is a local hip hop showcase at Blueprint Records, Feb. 11 with ChronicPhonics, Yahtzen, Pierre Mvono, DANOSAUR, Pat Walsh, Zee Nasty and Guests. The showcase runs from 7-10:30 p.m. Admission is by donation.
Or else just relax on a Sunday afternoon with the monthly ukulele jam , 2-3 p.m. at Casa.
As usual there are a lot of open mics this week. The Lethbridge Folk Club has their monthly open mic, Feb. 10 at Casa at 7:30 p.m. As usual the Slice has an open mic on Thursday nights, Honker’s Pub has an open mic on Friday nights at 8 p.m, and an afternoon open mic from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday nights. And both the Owl Acoustic Lounge and the Onion have open mics.
