Junkman’s Quire play an eclectic St. Patrick‘s Day show

St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Friday night so every place was pretty much packed. I was moving a little slowly because of the Real McKenzies the night before, but still caught a couple of shows.

I haven’t seen the Junkman’s Quire for a while, so made a point of catching them at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March 17.

They were playing their own blend of jazz, folk and Celtic music which stood out because of duelling fiddlers Megan Brown and Tom Scott, who played in unison, traded solos and competed for who had the fastest fingers.

Frontman George Fowler was an affable lead singer, leading the band through a variety of songs exploring a diverse range of genres. Tom Scott set down his fiddle to try his hand at singing Steve Earle’s “Galway Girl.”
Some of the gypsy jazz songs were highlights.
