Metal transcends borders and continents with Vancouver based metal band Social Arsonist, including members from Canada, Chile and Mexico.
But they all met and bonded over music through the power of the internet.
They play the Smokehouse, May 28 with the Vth Circle.
“I was playing music and couldn’t find anyone who quite fit with what I wanted to do so I started a youtube channel and Dario (Zuñiga Marro, bassist ) and Manuel (Morgado Prado, guitarist) started commenting on it from Chile, but I thought it was just spam, so I just deleted their comments,” said Social Arsonist frontman Cayle Charlton, noting they persisted, so he finally made contact and started communicating with them online in 2010 with them and was so impressed that he decided to go to Chile for a few months in 2013 to work and play with them, where they were already making music, but couldn’t find the right vocalist fit.
“It was a real eye-opener. It was an awesome experience,” he said.
“It was just the right fit,” he continued.
While they were down there, they recorded their debut EP “De-Evolution of Thy Self” and full length CD “Duality of Perception.”
“It was pretty organic,” Charlton continued, noting he has been busy helping the Chilean members of the band get settled in Canada with work and visas— and of course touring.
“They can stay for six months then they go back to Chile,” he said, adding the group is taking full advantage of the Chilean members being in Canada, as they are writing the new album and playing some high profile festivals including the Loud As Hell Festival in Drumheller, Aug. 5. But first the band tours Chile in June.
They are excited about recording the new album in Canada.
“It‘s going to be mind-blowing. It’s going to be heavy like the older stuff, but it‘s going to be bigger and brighter. And it’s going to show how we has grown as a band,” he said.
He noted lyrics are about life.
“They’re about things we see in day to day life and some political rants,” he said.
He is excited to play Lethbridge.
“ Come out and support your local scene. Live entertainment needs your support,” he said
Social Arsonist play the Smokehouse, may 28 with Vancouver metal band Vth Circle and local metal band To The Mountains, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
