Calgary rockabilly trio Peter and the Wolves took advantage of an attentively listening Lethbridge Folk Club crowd to try out some new songs and showcase their piano powered side at the Lethbridge College Cave, Saturday, Jan. 13.
I arrived in time to watch Peter Cormier be possessed by the spirit of Jerry Lee Lewis as he grinned and hammed away at his keyboards, while a couple of couples rocked and rolled alongside the attentively listening audience.
The tight band dressed in natty suits and ties played several new songs and a lot of rock and roll boogie woogie classics including a couple of more obscure Jerry Lee Lewis songs including “Breathless.”
They also played a little Little Richard and several originals from their two CDs.
He picked up his guitar for a couple of originals including “Rock It Back in Time” as well as new songs to appear on an upcoming CD including “Jailbird Josephine.”
There were old rock and roll classics including “Runaround Sue, and Buddy Holly’s “Oh Boy”
A newer highlight was “Sundae Morning Blue.”
They wound down a solid show by showing off their bluesy side on a tortured version of blues classic “St. James Infirmary.”
They received a standing ovation and were called back for an encore, which closed the show around 11:30 p.m.
