I haven’t seen local hard rock/ punk band Quick Draw for a while. They played several times this year, but I missed them every tome, so I was pleased to catch them at the Slice, Dec. 20, where they were playing for a good sized and really enthusiastic audience.
Vocalist Rory Freeman, drummer Ben Lamb, guitarist Keith Lamb and bassist Rod Cahoon drew heavily from ’90s alternative rock and grunge along the lines of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, but they also dabbled in horror punk by covering the Misfits “Dig up Her Bones” and Danzig’s “Mother.”
They also put a punkish stamp on Dead Or Alive’s ’80s one hit wonder “ You Spin me Round.”
Most of their set was grunge styled originals showcasing slightly detuned riffs and Rory Freeman’s tenor range vocals.
Local alternative band Vessel made their debut by drawing heavily from the musical tool box of ’’90s progressive rock/alternative rock band Tool. So their were slow, sludgy heavy soundscapes and ethereal vocals which really reflected the Tool influence.
