E-mail Print PDF

A trimmed down Fawns played  a fabulous acoustic set at the Slice, Friday, Aug. 21.
Lead guitarist  Richard Charlton, Lead singer/ guitarist Mercedes Fawns and  drummer Chris Morden played a spirited set of original  acoustic alternative rock and folk pop music.
I was just in time for their second set of the night.

Fawns has been hard at work during the pandemic writing  songs and took the opportunity to share them with an intimate audience.
Fawns danced, writhed and passionately sang behind a plexiglass shield, while Charlton got lost in  beautiful acoustic guitar licks.
They began their set with an intense new number called I’m Trying.”

Fawns channelled   some Alanis Morissette on another new song “ Just Like A Lover” as she left the guitar playing to Charlton while she added some extra percussion. Morden was playing an assortment of acoustic drums  including a cajon box drum for the set.

As always Fawns showed off her appealing, emotive, vibrant voice. on another new song “Melody In the Night.”

After the new songs, they delved into her back catalogue, belting out a slower, more sultry version of the first single from her last album, “I Grew Up Here.”

Charlton’’s guitar playing came to the fore in the funk fuelled last song of the set.

Though they were called back for a couple of encores which they were happy to deliver.
