Live music was back in force this past weekend and it continues taking off this week, with a lot of sweet shows happening.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge has an open mic tonight as they do every Tuesday.
The Slice has an eclectic week planned beginning with Rock and Pop alumni night , Wednesday, July 16, featuring Scot Davidson“s music students. The show begins at 7 p.m.
The Slice goes metal on Friday and Saturday nights.
Local power metal band Tyrants of Chaos are excited to show some of the new music they have been working on at the Slice, July 16 with special guests SI. There is a $10 cover for that show, and the Slice continues in the heavy vein on Saturday, July 15 with Berserker’s debut CD release party beginning at 9 p.m. with local pop punk band the Youngbloods and Revanchist. there is a $10 cover for that show as well.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge kicks things up a notch with a couple great shows.
Local Favourites Biloxi parish and Starpainter take the big stage on Friday night, July 16. Admission is donation.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a special ticketed event on Saturday, as Fernie Stoke folk band Shred Kelly make their long awaited Lethbridge return in support of their latest CD Like A Rising Sun. Their Tiny Concert Series is an all ages show which begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.
The big festival of the weekend is Latin Fest 2021 at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association (421 6 Ave South), on Saturday, July 17.
There will be a variety of musicians and dancers performing from noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Performers include The Corazon Salvadoreno Dancers, Mexicanos Sin Frontera Dancers, Ammena Dancers, Klave Latino Band, Rigoberto Alvaredo, Antonio Bobadilla Amarel, Julien Todd and Dale Ketcheson and Los Mejas band.
If you want to play, the Slice has their regular open mic on Thursday.
Coda Lite aka Sheldon Shukaliak and Ben Lamb host Honker’s Pub’s Friday Night open mic and The Trippy Hippys host The Honker’s afternoon open mic on Saturday.
The Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina has an afternoon Family jam on Sunday at 4 p.m. and their regular open mic on Monday nights. And the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s open mic is on Tuesday.
If you want to laugh, there are plenty of options this week.
Good Times has a local comedy showcase on Friday, July 16 beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and Calgary Comedian Adam Ruby performs, two shows Saturday, July 16.
Impromptu’s Drunk Improv is back, July 17. Book your tickets in advance through the Theatre Outré website for $15 and you will be sent the time and lot location of the backyard stage. Performers Jay Whitehead, David Gabert, Erica Barr, Ashley Thomson, Brent Clark and Mark Ogle will be entertaining you with a variety of improv games like those seen on Whose Line is It Anyway.
The Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society heads north with two shows in Legacy Park, on Thursday, July 15 and Friday July 15 at 7 p.m. beginning at 8 p.m.
Arts in the Park is also at Legacy Park. This week, the Lethbridge Musical Theatre Broadway open mic is on stage, Saturday, at 12:45. Admission is free.
A new edition of Trader Tales was supposed to take place at Fort Whoop Up on July 16, but has been postponed to July 23 due to poor ticket sales. So get a tour of the Fort and learn about some of the characters living there in the 1870s with host Andrew Legg.
