Raymond classic rock band Saints and Sinners made their Lethbridge debut at the Slice, with a solid show of classic rock and a couple originals, Friday, Jan. 27.
They have been playing for about 10 years and always play Raymond’s blues rock festival during the summer, but they made their Lethbridge debut at the Slice.
The band including vocalist Whitney Mclellan; lead guitarist Jaime Dixon; guitarist/bassist Cory Rasmussen; bassist/guitarist/vocalist Sean Coppieters; guitarist Jordan Rasmussen and keyboardist Barbara Nalder wound up their first set with McLellan belting out a cover of Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet and a rocking cover of Kansas “Carry On My Wayward Son.”
They opened their second set with Sean Coppieters trading his bass to Cory Rasmussen for his guitar and taking centre stage to sing a couple original blues/rock/ country songs. We usually hear Rasmussen playing keyboards for local bands, but he showed his prowess on bass and guitar for this show.
He prefaced his song “John Deere Tractor” by giving a shout out to the truckers, which drew some cheers from a decent sized audience.
His second originals “Other Man Blues” was also a hit with the audience.
He kept the guitar and sang a capable cover of the Hollies’ “Long Cool Woman” before turning the microphone back to Whitney Mclellan, who belted out a heavy version of the “Sound of Silence,” which had more in common with the Disturbed cover than the than Simon and Garfunkel original.
She showed off some powerful pipes on a cover of Hearts’ “classic “Barracuda.,” and on a heavy cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page.”
