I always look forward to  Jr. Gone Wild’s visits to Lethbridge.

Edmonton cowpunk pioneers have been here twice in a year as they have released a fantastic new album “ Still Got the Jacket.

They played most of that and a lot of old favourites during their show at the Slice, Saturday, March 12.

Some of the more punk inspired new tracks including “Chinook Arch,” “Old and Ugly,” “Warren’s Van” plus “Girl in the Crowd,” one of the singles from the album came early on in the set, kicking things off on a high octane note, until they slowed thing down with Steve Loree playing steel guitar for a couple of  the more country influenced songs.

They played a couple older songs  including “ Downtime” and a couple tracks from “Less Art More Pop.”

Adding to the more country side of the show, Boots Graham, who is playing the Slice this weekend, joined the band on stage to jam on a few country classics including “Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down.”

The band picked up the tempo again with more of the new album including  “ Cool for my Kids (Good Looking for My Wife)” and “Fool’s Errand.”

Loree sang a couple of the more country influenced songs including “ Behind the Wheel” and “Dodge.”

Bassist Dove Brown added “ The  She’s Going to California To Find Herself Blues.” And they rocked the album’s other single , their cover of Chilliwack’s “Fly At Night.”

They started winding down the show with one of my favourites’“ Rhythm of the Rain,”  and their excellent cover of the Beat Farmers’ “Southern Cross.” Before ending aptly with “ The Last One.”

But they were called back for an encore of a countrified version of the Ramones “ She’s the One.” They ended their show with their cover of Paul Revere and the Raiders’ “Him or Me (What’s It Gonna Be?)”

Unfortunately I missed an opening set by local country band Badlands.
