Much music for Mother’s Day week

What’s going down in this town  for mother’s day week? Lots of live entertainment. Things begin early with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra’s presentation of Intima VI — Brahms Requiem at the Southminster United Church on Monday, May 2.

 

 The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., features special guests Vox Musica and the Chinook Chamber singers who will be performing Beethoven - Overture to Egmont; Beethoven - Drei Equali; Bach - Brandenburg No. 2 and Brahms - Ein Deutches Requiem (German Requiem), Op. 45.

 The Owl Acoustic Lounges open mic is Tuesday. Jazz Night continues at the Watertower Grill on Wednesday.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a fun week, beginnig May 3 with their monthly stand up Comedy open mic. 

 Jon Martin returns to Lethbridge from the wilds of Edmonton to share the stage with Max Hopkins, DFriday May 8.  And after the Southern Alberta Art Gallery]s art auction, dance the night away t the afterparty with Phenomenorm, May 9 at the Owl acoustic lounge at 9 p.m. 

 

 The Geomatic Attic is finally able to bring back folk musician/ poet Shane Koyczan to Lethbridge for two shows, May 4 and 5 at the Attic.

 

 He was supposed to play the Sterndale Bennett  Theatre, but Covid 19 cancelled the show.

 Tickets are $37. The shows both begin at 8 p.m.

 

It’s the beginning of the month so more shows will be announced throughout the week.

 Get ready to bang your head at the Slice, Saturday, May 7 with Calgary seafaring themed power metal band Syryn plus local metal band Tyrants of Chaos plus Drearius. Thew show begins at 8 p.m.

 

I believe the Slice’s Weekly open mic is on Wednesday. Edmonton’s Real Sickies, who opened for the Real McKenzies in March will be playing their own show with Old Wives, the Semlters and Bob Scallywag on Thursday, May 5 at 8 p.m.

 

 The Slice is also hoisting a fundraiser for Meggan Rourke and her daughter who are planning on moving back to Lethbridge after a move to Montreal.

 

 There is a Go Fund me page and a concert with local acts to be announced at the Slice, May 6.

 

 Honkers Pub has an open mics on Friday night with blues band Coda Lite at 7 p.m. and The Trippy Hippys host Honkers Pub’s and Saturday afternoon open mic beginning at 5 p.m.

 

 And Paul Kype and Texas Flood return to rock Casino Lethbridge blues rock style on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9. 

 

 Yukon comedian Nik McQuik returns to Good Times to make you laugh on the weekend. at 8 p.m. , May 6 and 7. Tickets are $16.67 through Showpass.

 

 Get ready to rock for Mother’s Day as Vancouver vis Whitby alternative rock/ emo and punk tinged band The Midnight Echo will be performing at the Canadian Brewhouse, Sunday, May 8 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.

 Early next week, Luke James Bruce returns to Mojos pub to host their open mic.

 And Bob Seger fans should be getting their Night Moves on with  Night Moves: The Essential Bob Seger tribute starring Bob Hare at the Yates Theatre., Tuesday, May 10.
