It”s always a funky good time with local funk rock trio Adequate. They had a packed Owl Acoustic Lounge on Saturday,June 25, so started a little early.
I missed the first set but caught their toe-tapping second set.
They began with Chic’s disco hit “Le Freak,” and played all of your dance and R and B familiar favourites off the radio.
They added a rap medley including “Bust A Move“ and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s theme. They turned “Shaft” into a hilarious tribute to their guitarist Josh Thorlakson.
Alway a highlight, Thorllakson brought the fun and the noice, taking lead vocals in a great cover of Lou Reed’s “Take a Walk on the Wild Side,” which left drummer Keenan Pezderic time to take a breather from singing falsetto for most of the night.
Scott Mezei beamed away on bass as usual.
They added a bit of psychedelic rock on a cover of Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride.”
They finally added one of their own songs “Easy Peasy,” which is a highlight of their eponymous debut CD.
