Local stoner rock band Dirt came back as Classic Black, Friday, Sept. 2 at the Slice.
While I missed an opening set by Switched Off, I caught MomBod’s set.
The local alternative rock trio of guitarist/ vocalist Mandy Fox, drummer Amberlea Parker and bassist Silvana Campus played a brief but solid set of ’90s style Riot Grrrl punk.
They began with an instrumental, then played a new song called “She’s deadly,” which was a highlight.
They brought an L7 and Hole meets Kill Matilda sound to the stage.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the band formerly known as Dirt aka Classic Black. So it was a treat to see drummer Garwin Poff, Bassist Steve Martin and guitarist/ vocalist John Brooks on stage again.
They played a solid set of loud, angry stoner rock mixed with punk rock and a touch of Smashing Pumpkins ’90s alternative rock.
Calgary band Gone Cosmic were impressive.
There were a lot of big riffs and huge, female powered operatic vocals from Abbie Thurgood.
Two thirds of Chron Goblin— guitarist Darty Purdy and bassist Brett Whittingham provided a big bass groove up front and super melodic guitar solos.
Drummer Marcello Castonuovo supplied the thunderous backbeat.
