Plenty of blues and jazz on the plate this week

It’s a good week to  play the blues  and get the jazz inin Lethbridge.

Local singers and musicians will be performing theior favourite Tony Bennett, barbra Streisand and Michael Bublé as Fran Rude and Ken Rogers bring The Starlight Lounge  back to the Yates  Theatre as fundraiser for Sunrise Rotary Club. Performers include Jillian Bracken, Jessica Ens, Jordana Kohn, Sheena Lawson, Anna McBryan, Mark Campbell, Jeff Carlson, George Gallant, David Mikuliak, Ken Rogers and Mark Ward. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are  $50 , with all proceeds going to fund numerous community projects by the Sunrise Rotary Club.

 

 The Watertower Pub and Grill have a regular jazz night on Wednesday. This week James Oldenburg and Paul Holden return to the stage from 6-8 p.m.

There are a lot of different open mics.

 

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge‘s jazz jam is Wednesday, Oct. 12 with  HBO3 and  saxophonist Michael Carter.

Fawns hosts a queer open mic at the Slice on Thursday, oct. 13.

 Electrasoul host Honkers Pub”s open mic on Friday Oct. 14.

 

Honkers pub has a big show on Saturday instead of their afternoon open mic.

 Piggystock returns to Honkers Pub, Oct, 15 with a  local blues band Coda. Ticketd are $0 ina dvance, $50 at the door for an evening flull of blues music, a pulled pork dunner, fun and games. Piggystock begins at 5:30 p.m.

 

 Get your third shot of Oktoberfest on oct. 15 at the German Canadian Club as Medicine Hat band Allen Schatz  hit the stage from 5-11 p.m 

 

The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a ticketed event, Thursday, Oct, 13 with Amy Nelson and Mariel Buckley. Tickets are $17.89  through Eventbrite.

 Get ready to rock ’70s and ’80s style at the  Enmax Centre on Friday, where Nancy Wilson’s Heart plus Styx play at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50, $75, $104 and $142. 

 

On a more country and folk note, Alana Folkard returns to Casino lethbrdidge, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m..

 

Kootenay bluegrass and country duo the Doggone Brothers rreturn to the Owl Acoustic Lounge Friday at 9 p.m.

Ryland Moranz and his band return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge Saturday, Oct. 15 wth  Zach Kleisinger. Admsision to those shows is by donation.

 

 The Slice rocks on Saturday with Kamloops psych pop band Mother Sun and sibling band The Pairs. The Slice welcomes back Calgary Cabaret: A Burlesque show, Oct. 15. The Halloween themed fun begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door.

 

Sisters Pub features a great blues and soul show on Sunday, Oct. 16 with The Horojo Trio a Toronto trio featuring guitar whiz JW Jones, drummer Jamie Holmes and vocalist/ Keyboardist Jeff Rogers.

The show begins at 7 p.m.

 

Things don’t stop on the Theatre front.

 

 New West Theatre presents Barvinok, a play with music at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre beginning Oct. 13-22. Barvinok tells a personal story of war inspired by the experiences of playwright Lianna Makutch’s grandparents during the Second World War and true accounts of people interviewed in conflict zones in Eastern Ukraine.

 Tickets cost $25 adults, $20 for seniors and students.

 

Get your laugh on at Good Times. Pro Amateur night is Thursday, Oct, 13 featuring Megan Windle, Brian Dawdniuk and  Nicholas Hurdado. Admission is five dollars. Michael Moses headlines a local comic showcase  with Connor Christmas on Friday, Oct. 14 . Admission is $15. The laughs begin at 8 p.m and Chris Gordon retuns to the Good Times stage, Oct. 15.
