Happy Halloween. With Halloween on Monday this year, that means most Halloween parties are Friday and Saturday in Lethbridge. Plenty of them have live music.
Celebrate Halloween punk style Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday Oct. 29.
Saskatchewan’s Grimelda, formerly known as the Faps rock the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 28 with local punk rock bands Berserker and Short Straps plus power and death metal band Balrogath and Misfits Tribute 138. The music begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
138 play their last show ever at the Slice, Oct. 29 for a tribute night which also includes the Hockey Moms as the Descendants.
If you want to rock Halloween ’80s style, Stage Fright takes the stage at KCS Pub in Coaldale with Danalli for a big Halloween show, Friday Oct. 28. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Danalli have a busy Halloween weekend, as they join Uncovered for their usual Halloween haunt at Pop’s Pub South, Saturday, Oct. 29. There is no cover for that show.
The Chevelles celebrate Halloween at the Place as per usual, Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $16.93 from Eventbrite.
The Trippy Hippys celebrate Halloween at Honkers Pun on Saturday, Oct. 29.
If you want a blue Halloween, Coda Lite play the blues at the Ten Ten Pub, Saturday, Oct. 29.
Across town, Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few celebrate Halloween at Mojos Pub.
But it’s not just about Halloween this week.
It’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s monthly poetry open mic with host Teri Petz. That runs 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26.
One show I’m really looking forward to is the return of Kingston born, Montreal based Celtic punk veterans the Mahones, who stop by the Slice on Thursday, Oct. 27 in support of their brand new album Jameson Street. The show begins at 8 p.m.
The Mark Hall Band play a show at Honkers Pub on Friday, Oct. 28 from 7-11 p.m. There is no cover for the show.
The Slice brings back L’omelette to play some jazz infused rock with a new local band Chin Music on Friday, Oct.28. There is a $10 cover for that show.
Hamilton based indie country band Ten Minute Detour return to Lethbridge to play the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Bailey Kate and Shuffalo, Saturday, Oct. 29. Admission is by donation. The Owl Acoustic Lounge winds up October with a special Halloween themed Wigs and Waffles brunch at noon, Oct. 30.
The Lethbridge Folk Club winds up October with a special, early show with Perth based folk musician James Keelaghan and special guest Tyson Ray Borsboom playing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 for non members and $35 for members and $10 for students.
Local band Old School will be playing all your favourite ’80s hits at Casino Lethbridge this weekend.
For comedy this week, Yuk Yuks comedy returns to the Canadian Brewhouse, Oct. 28 with headliner Charles Haycock. Tickets are $20. The laughs begin at 8 p.m.
Simon Glassman returns to Good Times Oct. 28 and 29 for shows at 8 p.m. Each night. Admission is $15.
The other big event this week is 9 to 5 the Musical, which opens, Thursday, Oct. 27 and runs until Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. each night. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 29.
9 to 5 the musical clocks in again on Wednesday, Nov. 2 and runs until Saturday, Nov. 5. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 5.
The University of Lethbridge’s main-stage production of Dr. Faustus opens Nov. 1 and runs until Nov. 5.
