The end of March rocks with Music and Speech Arts festival, Youth One Gala and gobs of guffaws

Lethbridge rocks into spring with another busy week.

The Lethbridge and District music and speech Arts Festival is underway.

There are performances every day beginning at 9 a.m. at Southminster United Church, St. Augustines Church and Sanctuary,  Sterndale Bennett Theatre, Casa as well as the Owl Acoustic Lounge. There are no performances at the Yates Theatre.

 There are three big concerts this year including a new opening concert at Southminster United Church, March 22 at 7 p.m..

The Musical Theatre Showcase Concert is March 25 at 2 p.m. and  The Stars of the Festival Wrap Up Concert is April 1 at 2 p.m.

 There is a little bit of everything happening this week.

Good Times has laughs all week long beginning on Wednesday with  Pro-Amateur Night, Wednesday, March 22.

 

 For something completely different,  Comedy hypnotist  Clint W, (Clint Worke)  from the  Amazing Game Show will be entertaining at Good Times, Thursday, March 23.. The entertainment begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $14.95 though Eventbrite.

 

 Amol Suri performs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. each night . Plus, there will be a special Sunday  night pop up comedy show featuring Marito Lopez and Jarrett Campbell, march 26. at 7 p .m.

 

 The Standard Time  Duo aka Don Robb and Randy Epp return to the Watertower Grill, March 22.

It’s the end of the month, so that means it’s time for  the monthly poetry open mic at the Owl Acoustic lounge with host Teri Petz, Wednesday, March 22.

The Slice’s open mic is  Wednesday as well.

 

 Thursday has an excellent eclectic lineup

Gabe Thaine hosts a new open mic at Theoretically Brewing every Thursday beginning at 6 p.m..

 Rapper Madchild headlines a big hip hop show at the Place, March 23 with Robbie G in support of Madchild‘s new album Mobsters and Monsters. DJ Dow Jones, AYpayne, Bunz, RG, Alchemy the Linguist and Donny Sage, DJ Roach and Indian Jesus, Atomic Lane, TDuggie and JWise are also on the bill. Admission is $25. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

 

 Down the road, get ready to rock at the Owl Acoustic Lounge as Edmonton stoner rock trio  Black Mastiff hit the stage withy Calgary psych rock band Space Queen and Molten Lava. Tickets are $17.31 though Eventbrite. The music begins at 8 p.m.

 

Fawns has a busy week  They will be playing the Slice on Thursday with  Edmonton indie rock and pop band Royal Foundry, beginning Little High Little Low a cross-Canadian tour in support of their new album Running and Max Hopkins. Fawns also joins progressive rock/emo band Alex Arms and GreenWing at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March 24 .

Get ready to rock on Friday, March 24. Cal Toth’s Duelling Piano Piano and pasta returns to the Canadian Brewhouse. Admission is $25.

Citizen Radio (Juno, Danny and Friends) hosts the open mic at Honkers Pub, March 24. Breanne Urban and Train Wreck  rock the Casino Lethbridge stage Friday and Saturday.

 

 We’ll be seeing a lot of Peter and the Wolves  this week.

 The Calgary rockabilly band bring the sounds of the ’50s back to the Slice on Friday, March 24 and they will be playing a rocking dance party for the Geomatic Attic at the German Canadian Club next Thursday, March 30 with  MonkeyJunk.

 

There is a lot more than usual happening on Saturday, March 25.

 Laurie and Mark host Honkers Pub’s Open mic.

 

Rock for a good cause at Sandman Signature where the Black Tie Gala fundraiser for Youth One will be happening featuring music from the Bamboo Guppies and the Eric Braun band. The doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets a re$110-$125. There will be live crowdfunding, a red carpet, complementary drinks at thew door, live music and catering from Prime Catering including wine plus a live auction

Theoretically brewing features Lucie Waugh and  Kai Brooks admission is pay what you can. Door open at 6 p.m., the music begins at 7 p.m.

 

The Lethbridge jazz and Blues Society present a special show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge featuring Calgary jazz, groove and  R and B band Tendavillage. Tickets are five dollars students, $10 general admission.

And Aaron Trozzo’s new project  A Trozzo and the  Experience Project with Summer Bruises play the Slice on Saturday.

 

 Next week, open mic return to mojos Pub with host Luke James Bruce.

 Music at noon in the U of L Recital Hall features  Megumi Masaki and Keith Hamel, Tuesday,  March 28.

 And just announced. Classic rocker Burton Cummings will be playing the Enmax Centre, Sunday, June 11. Cummings    gained popularity with The Guess Who in the late ’60s and went on to a successful solo career in the late ’70s with hit like StanD Tall and “ One Way To Rock” Tickets go on sale March 22 at 10 a.m..
