JP Hoe puts on string powered pop show

Unfortunately I missed most of JP Hoe’s set at  the Slice, May 16. But I arrived to catch “Lions and Tigers,”  my favourite track off his CD “Mannequin,” which he  dedicated to everybody who has ever got on stage with him.JP Hoe and his band play Lions and Tigers. Photo by Richard Amery

As promised in his interview last week, he brought a violinist and a cellist plus a drummer / percussionist, which gave a unique string to his sound especially as you had the string section, plus their beautiful background harmonies.
I was hoping he’d be back for another set.

But there was a special treat in store for a surprisingly good sized Wednesday night crowd — Johnny Greenshields joined by stand-up bassist Kurt Ciesla and drummer Brad Brouwer.

They made a pretty tight unit, adding some jazz tinged flair to Greenshields’ jazz tinged originals.
