The Lethbridge College Student’s Association is getting ready for the fifth edition of  Band Wars, to take place March 8 in the Barn.
“It’s always been one of our most popular events,” said Aaron Chubb, Lethbridge CollegRapper H Bomb won the last Lethbridge College Student’s Association Band Wars. Photo by Richard Amery e events and Communications co-ordinator.

The bands compete for a first prize of $800, second prize of $200 and various prizes for  the runner’s-up.

“ We really hope we get a lot of new entries this year,” he said.
There are a few changes this year. They have reduced the admission to five dollars in advance for everybody including non-students, or $10 at the door. Plus the judge’s scores will be given more weight this time.
“The judges scores were  70 per cent of the score, now it’s 80 per cent,” Chubb said.

Five judges will judge 10 bands based on a variety of criteria including planning/preparedness, originality, interface with the audience, quality of performance and presentation.

The judges, drawn from Lethbridge media and music scene will give the bands 80 per cent of their score, 15 per cent will be based on audience reaction and five per cent for bonus points.

He noted the controversy of the last Band Wars’ winners, rapper H-Bomb contributed to the change.

“In all fairness, the rap group brought their fans out and they won based on the criteria,” Chubb emphasized.
Details are available online at http://www.mylcsa.com/events-a-venues/events/band-wars as are registration forms. The deadline for entry is Feb. 8.
The judging criteria and scoring can be downloaded from their site as well.
