Local jazz/ pop band The Groove Apostles had the Owl Acoustic packed on Saturday, April 16, which is impressive as they were competing against Shred Kelly around the corner.

They had a full house lost in an unstoppable groove of bass, sweet saxophone, piano and even some rap from a special guest they invited up on stage to wind down their set. They played a fantastic rearrangement of  George Michael’s ‘80s hit “Careless Whisper.”

The  Groove Apostles (vocalist Shelby Wilson; Daniel Best, bass; Matthew Hellawell, drums/ vocals; Vaughan Henning, saxophone/ guitar/ vocals and Daniel Yaretz, keyboards/ vocals) blended jazz into a  exciting mixture of  modern pop, ’80s pop and hip hop music.

Charismatic lead singer Shelby Wilson’s voice rang clearly through the  the room. They were having fun playing rearranged pop music including a rearranged, jazzy, funk fuelled version of  “Friend Zone.”
